I was an English teacher in China. I read a book called “The Discovery of Genesis: How the Truths of Genesis Were Found Hidden in the Chinese Language” by Ethel R. Nelson. The book shows how the pictures within the Chinese characters reflect stories from Genesis. For example the word boat (pinyin=chuan) reflects the story of Noah’s ark. The radicals–the parts of the Chinese character or the picture within the picture–tell the story of the flood. The pictures within the word boat were 8 people in a boat in the water. That’s how many people were in Noah’s ark. There were many, many more words that had parallels like this. I remember showing a Chinese friend how the radicals in this word broke down. She was astonished. She knew the story of Noah’s ark and looked at it as a fairy tale. When she saw the story embedded in her own language it became more than something that just Westerners believe.

    Hi Beth,

Thanks for the input regarding The Discovery of Genesis. I have read some of this book and believe it would make a great complement to this Flood Legends book. If we can get a hold of one of the authors I think it would make for a very interesting podcast.
